This climber is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: fast-growing
  • Flowering period: August to September
  • Hardiness: frost hardy (needs winter protection)

Spectacular, trumpet-shaped, salmon red flowers appear from August to September among dark green leaves. This vigorous climber looks great trained over a sunny wall or fence and needs lots of space to spread out.

  • Garden care: Until the plant has fully established, the shoots need to be trained and tied to a trellis or framework of horizontal wires. In February or March prune the sideshoots to within three or four buds of the permanent framework of the plant.
