This blackcurrant can produce a bumper crop of up to 9kg (20lbs) on mature bushes from mid July. The huge fruits are more than double the size of your regular blackcurrant and as the sugar/acid balance is just right, they have an outstandingly delicious taste. Usually ready to harvest from mid-July, they have soft, shiny skins and are particularly high in anthocyanins, which is a natural antioxidant.

  • Garden care: These bare root plants will be approx 1 year old. Prepare the ground well before planting. Remove all weeds and dig in plenty of well-rotted manure in to the area. Space at 1.5m intervals and once planted, apply a mulch of well-rotted manure every spring, as well as a nitrogen and potassium fertiliser. Make sure the plant is watered in dry weather and net the bushes to protect the currants from birds. In the first year, prune back to one bud above soil level in winter. After that only prune out weak branches.
