In frost-prone areas lift the rhizomes in autumn and store in a frost-free environment in barely-moist compost or leaf mould.
Creating a dramatic statement towards the back of a mixed border, the large purple-bronze leaves, and ruffled apricot-orange flowers lend a colourful and exotic touch to planting schemes.
