Lychnis coronaria 'Gardeners' World'
rose campion
- Position: full sun or partial shade
- Soil: fertile, moist, well-drained soil
- Rate of growth: average
- Flowering period: August
- Flower colour: magenta-red
- Hardiness: fully hardy
The contrast between the large, magenta-red, double flowers that appear from midsummer, and the white woolly stems and foliage is quite striking. A sun-loving perennial that will flourish in freely draining soil. - Garden care: Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted compost around the base of the plant in early-spring. Cut back the faded flowerheads in late autumn
It is worth keeping in mind that these plants are short lived perennials or bi-ennial, so although they usually self-seed freely, the plant will only live for a couple of years.
