Lychnis coronaria 'Gardeners' World'

rose campion

Size: 9cm pot Available: within 2-3 days

3 × 9cm pots Available: within 2-3 days

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: fertile, moist, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: August
  • Flower colour: magenta-red
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

The contrast between the large, magenta-red, double flowers that appear from midsummer, and the white woolly stems and foliage is quite striking. A sun-loving perennial that will flourish in freely draining soil.

  • Garden care: Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted compost around the base of the plant in early-spring. Cut back the faded flowerheads in late autumn

It is worth keeping in mind that these plants are short lived perennials or bi-ennial, so although they usually self-seed freely, the plant will only live for a couple of years.
