Ruffled crepe-paper-like petals, each with a large black mark at their base, form sumptuous, chocolate-maroon flowers above the grey-green leaves. Excellent for a perennial border or cottage garden, this oriental poppy will tolerate most soils as long as it gets plenty of sun. Before the flowers appear use twiggy prunings or garden canes as support for the flower stems.
