Acer palmatum 'Amagi-shigure'

Japanese maple

5 year guarantee
13cm pot £24.99

This shrub is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: lightly, dappled shade
  • Soil: fertile, moist, well-drained neutral to acid soil
  • Rate of growth: slow-growing
  • Flowering period: April to May
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

In spring, the leaves of 'Amagi-shigure' emerge bright pink, but each is attractively laced with darker veins. As the leaves mature, they turn redder, then more puple, but then in autumn, shades of orange and red make an appearance. This showy Japanese maple has an upright habit and will make as super specimen for smaller gardens or pots.

  • Garden care: Add a top-dressing of a multi-purpose fertiliser around the base of a newly planted tree in late spring and keep well watered. No routine pruning is required, just remove any dead, damaged or crossing branches in late autumn or winter when they are fully dormant.
