This tree is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil:deep, fertile, moist but well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: fast
  • Flowering period: May to June
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

A large and long-lived tree with handsome, big palmate green leaves, which turn shades of yellow and orange in the autumn. In late spring and early summer, showy upright clusters of creamy coloured flowers appear, and these are then followed by spiny fruits that contain the much sought-after conkers! It's a stunning specimen for larger gardens.

  • Garden care: Requires minimal pruning. Remove any broken, diseased or crossing branches in late autumn or winter. When planting incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole.
