This perennial dies back to below ground level each year in autumn, then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: well-drained, fertile soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: July to October
  • Hardiness: frost hardy (may need winter protection)

Recently bred in Oregon by Terra Nova Nurseries, this hyssop has already started to win awards. It was selected for its vigorous growth, compact habit and ability to withstand poor weather conditions. It produces its dense spikes of violet-blue flowers over a long period from midsummer, and the deep purple calyces (the bits that hold the flowers on the spike) hold their colour well - even after the flowers have faded.

  • Garden care: Don't cut back the faded flower-stems in until early spring, as they provide interest in the winter months. Lift and divide congested colonies in spring.
