This shrub is semi-evergreen, so it can lose some of its leaves in winter. In colder regions or more exposed gardens, it may lose them all, but then fresh new foliage appears again in spring.

  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: fertile, well-drained, neutral to acid soil
  • Rate of growth: fast-growing
  • Flowering period: July and August
  • Hardiness: fully hardy (borderline)

Cone-shaped clusters of pineapple-scented, lemon-yellow flowers appear in mid- and late summer against the backdrop of silver-grey foliage. A vigorous shrub, it's perfect for training against a wall in a sunny spot with freely draining soil. For maximum enjoyment, try to plant it near an entrance or well-trodden path so you can fully appeciate the fabulously fruity scent.

  • Garden care: It requires minimal pruning, but can be cut back to sideshoots or strong buds immediately after flowering. Protect from cold, drying winds.
