Arisaema speciosum
cobra lily
- Position: partial shade
- Soil: moist but well drained, neutral to acidic
- Flowering period: May to June
- Hardiness: half hardy
A tuberous perennial with an exotic-looking, hooded, white-striped purple spathe up to 15cm long which appears in late spring or early summer. Perfect for a jungle themed border, the cobra lily can be grown in a pot so it can be easily moved to a cool greenhouse when the temperatures start to drop. - Garden care: Apply a generous layer of mulch in autumn to protect from the worst of the winter - or if they are in pots, move them to a sheltered spot. Protect the emerging foliage from frosts in spring. Do not allow dormant tubers to dry out completely.
- Harmful if eaten/skin & eye irritant
