The plants in this collection will die right back in autumn, then fresh new growth will appear again in spring.

The plants that make up this collection all produce flowers that will last well after being cut. You may want to plant them generously though so you can maintain colour in both the border and the vase.

Please note that the Moluccella laevis is an annual, so it's supplied as a packet of 200 seeds. The other plants are potted up into either 9cm or 2 litre pots (as listed).

In this collection you will receive one of each of the following:

  • Astrantia 'Hadspen Blood': Umbels of dark reddish-purple flowers, surrounded by a ruff of similarly coloured, long lasting bracts, appear from early to midsummer. Deadheading will encourage more flowers to form. Grows to 90cm. Supplied in a 9cm pot.

  • Phlox paniculata 'Blue Paradise': Violet-blue flowers, each with a darker eye, form in large domed clusters, creating an impressive display in the mixed or herbaceous border. Their vibrant colouring makes a wonderful contrast with many shades including purples, plums and silvers. Grows to 1.2m. Supplied in a 9cm pot.

  • Moluccella laevis: Long spikes of small, fragrant, white to pale purplish-pink flowers, which are surrounded by a pale green collar-like calyx, appear from late summer. They make great additions to fresh bouquets where they provide a perfect foil for showier colours, and if dried will add structure and interest to longer-lasting arrangements. Grows to 60cm. Supplied as a packet of 200 seeds.

  • Alstroemeria 'Sirius': Soft pink flowers with a gold throat and brownish-red freckles appear in profusion from early summer, creating an exotic feel to the border. An easy to mix colour, it looks beautiful when planted in sizeable clumps, and as it makes such a good cut flower, it is worth planting more than you need. Grows to 90cm. Supplied in a 2 litre pot.

  • Planting tips: Prepare the bed well by digging in lots of composted organic matter before you plant. For best results it is essential that the plants are kept well watered for the first year, particularly during warmer weather.
