These undemanding sun-lovers produce a profusion of small daisy-like flowers over a prolonged period. They will flourish in pots or borders with freely draining soil. Supplied in a 9cm pots.

  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: fertile, well-drained soil
  • Rate of Growth: average
  • Flowering period: June to August
  • Hardiness: borderline hardy (may need protection in colder regions)

One collection contains one of each of the following plants, all supplied in 9cm pots.

  • Erigeron karvinskianus: Masses of small daisies, emerging white, then turning pink, with yellow centres, give this plant an unusual, two-tone effect. It has a long flowering period, from May to October, and is amazingly versatile, being low-growing, happy in sun or partial shade and thriving in any well-drained soil. It's also tolerant of coastal conditions. Try it as an edging plant in a mixed border, alongside paths, in a gravel garden, spilling over walls, or planted in the cracks in paving. Bees and butterflies love all erigerons, so they make a wonderful addition to a wildlife garden, too. Grows to 30cm.

  • Erigeron glaucus 'Sea Breeze' pink-flowered: A low-growing, spreading perennial with blue-grey leaves and striking, lavender pink, semi-double, daisy like flowers with yellow discs at their centre. It will flower right through the summer and self-seeds into unlikely places such as walls and crevices. This plant loves sun and sea air, and is a familiar sight around the coasts of southern Britain. Let it flow over a raised wall, creep through a rock garden or tuck it in the front of a border and let it run. Grows to 30cm.

  • Erigeron 'Sea Breeze' mauve-flowered: Lax stems are studded with grey-green foliage, which is virtually smothered by an abundance of yellow-eyed mauve daisies when they appear in summer. A very pretty addition to a patio pot or rockery, it is also useful for adding colour to the front of a sunny border - and it will thrive in a coastal location. Grows to 30cm.

  • Garden care: Cut back to ground level in autumn and avoid winter wet.
