Eucalyptus are grown for their fab evergreen foliage, which is a soft grey-green and is often used by florists. This new form has been found to be much hardier than the others, and has been known to withstand temperatures as low as -20C. It also differs from its close relatives in that it is more compact and shrubby, although with careful pruning, it can be trained to have a tree-like silhouette. This is a wonderful new addition to the range. It will make a great specimen in the shrub border and can also be used as hedging.
How to care for Eucalyptus gunnii Azura ('Cagire') (PBR):
Requires minimal pruning if grown as a tree, removing any broken, diseased or crossing branches in late autumn or winter. For the best juvenile foliage, prune in early spring cutting back the stems to two or three buds above the base. When planting incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake firmly.
