Gaultheria 'Jingle Bells'

gaulnettya jingle bells

2 litre pot £16.99
  • Position: partial shade
  • Soil: humus-rich, moist soil with a neutral to acidic pH, or ericaceous compost in a pot
  • Rate of growth: average to fast
  • Flowering period: May to June
  • Hardiness: frost hardy (may need winter protection)

This compact, yet relatively fast-growing evergreen shrub is ideal for moist woodland or shadier rock gardens. Its upright, suckering stems are clothed in dark green, leathery leaves, and in late spring and early summer, small clusters of urn-shaped blush-coloured flowers appear. These are then followed towards the end of summer by rounded purple-red fruits.

  • Garden care: Lightly trim any shoots that spoil the symmetry of the plant as soon as it has finished flowering. Remove any unwanted suckers to restrict growth as they appear. It will tolerate full sun if the soil is permanently moist.
  • Harmful if eaten
