Hamamelis × intermedia 'Westerede'
witch hazel
This shrub is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.
During the warmer months, these deciduous shrubs will offer the perfect backdrop to the showy, summer flowering perennials, but come the autumn, they start grabbing the limelight when their foliage starts to turn rich tones of yellow and orange. Then, after all the leaves have been shed, slender-petalled, golden yellow flowers appear in small clusters along the length of the splaying stems. These offer a rare burst of seasonal colour - and on more mature plants, look dazzling when viewed against a bright blue sky.
