Quantity
  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: poor or moderately fertile, moist, well-drained neutral to slightly alkaline soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: June to September
  • Hardiness: frost hardy (may need some protection in winter)

Each spring, the new foliage emerges in a bright pink flush, but as the season progresses, the foliage changes to green. Then, in summer, small spikes of lavender coloured flowers top the stems, helping to attract bees and other pollinating insects to the garden. Finally, as the temperatures drop in autumn and winter, the foliage changes once again, this time taking on blue and pink undertones. A showy addition to the front of the border, it will also look great lining the edges of a path, or when potted up for the patio.

  • Garden care: Needs minimal pruning. Remove misplaced or frost damaged branches in late spring.
