Hydrangea macrophylla 'Forever & Ever Blue'

mophead hydrangea

5 year guarantee
12 lt pot (0.4-0.6m) £89.99

This shrub is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: moist, well-drained, moderately fertile, humus-rich soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: July to September
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

One of the new breed of hydrangeas, 'Forever & Ever Blue' has the ability to flower on both new and old stems. This means that even if your plants are given a hard prune early in the season (and provided they are kept well fed and watered), they will still go on to produce an abundace of summer flowers. Do keep in mind however that like all the mophead hydrangeas, the flower colour will change depending on your soil's pH. Therefore, if you want the flowers to be as blue as possible, it should be grown in acidic soils or ericaceous compost - or treated with hydrangea colourant.

  • Garden care: Hydrangeas do not like to dry out - particularly if they are grown in a sunny spot. Therefore, if they start to wilt in dry weather, soak the roots with a hose and the plant will usually bounce back. Remove faded flowerheads in spring after the danger of frosts, cutting back the flowered stems to a strong pair of buds. Take out misplaced or diseased shoots. Mulch young plants with a well-rotted manure or compost in spring. Once established, remove a quarter to a third of the shoots to the base of the plant.
  • Humans: Skin allergen; Pets: Harmful if eaten
