Hydrangea macrophylla 'Forever & Ever White'

mophead hydrangea

5 year guarantee
12 lt pot (0.4-0.6m) £89.99

This shrub is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: moist, well-drained, moderately fertile, humus-rich soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: July to September
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

This new hydrangea can flower on both current and previous seasons growth, so it can offer more flowers over a longer period than many of the older varieties. The buds start to appear in early summer, and as they open the petals change from fresh lime to clear white. They hold their colour well, but as they age, pink flushes start to creep in, and by mid-autumn these have intensified. It's a stunning plant for the patio (or border), and as it produces so many flowers, you're not going to miss them if you cut a few for the vase.

  • Garden care: Hydrangeas do not like to dry out - particularly if they are grown in a sunny spot. Therefore, if they start to wilt in dry weather, soak the roots with a hose and the plant will usually bounce back. Remove faded flowerheads in spring after the danger of frosts, cutting back the flowered stems to a strong pair of buds. Take out misplaced or diseased shoots. Mulch young plants with a well-rotted manure or compost in spring. Once established, remove a quarter to a third of the shoots to the base of the plant.
  • Humans: Skin allergen; Pets: Harmful if eaten
