This perennial is semi-evergreen so it can lose some of its leaves in winter. In colder regions or more exposed gardens, it may lose them all, but then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: moist but freely draining soil
  • Rate of growth: average to fast-growing
  • Flowering period: July to September
  • Hardiness: half hardy (will need winter protection)

Introduced at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2019, this handsome Canary Island foxglove is compact, bushy and free-flowering. Forming a lush clump of rich green foliage, from which spires of peachy yellow flowers are jettisoned in midsummer, it offers a long season of interest, as well as a blast of tropical colour.

  • Garden care: After flowering cut back the flowered spikes to encourage more sideshoots. Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted organic matter around the plant in early spring.
  • CAUTION toxic if eaten
