Loropetalum chinense var. rubrum 'Chang Nian Hong' (PBR)
loropetalum ( syn. Loropetalum Ever Red )
- Position: partial shade
- Soil: fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil
- Rate of growth: average
- Flowering period: February to April
- Hardiness: frost hardy (may need winter protection)
The lipstick-red spidery flowers put on a great show from late winter and early spring, particularly as they are accentuated by the burgundy coloured foliage. This is a decorative evergreen shrub, that offers a dazzling contrast to the greens in a mixed or shrub border. Happiest in partial shade, it also makes an excellent understorey plant in a woodland setting. - Garden care: Requires minimal pruning, but lightly trim after flowering to encourage bushy growth.
