A marginal aquatic, which is ideal for softening the edges of a pond or stream, or for growing in bog gardens and other areas that remain waterlogged for any length of time. It has impressive spring flowerheads that are wrapped in a large white spathe, which looks quite spectacular above the strongly veined, leathery leaves. As the common name of this plant suggests, the smell of the flowers and the crushed foliage is not particularly pleasant, so ideally they should be planted well away from seating areas.

  • Garden care: Plant out in reliably moist soil, or pot up into a pond basket and place at the margins of a pond.
  • Harmful if eaten/skin & eye irritant
