Perhaps the best crab apple for crab apple jelly. Masses of cup-shaped, white flowers from red buds in late spring, followed by large, red-flushed, orange-yellow fruit, and dark green leaves. This pollution tolerant crab apple is an ideal ornamental tree for a small, urban garden. Also it is one of the best disease resistant crab apples. It's conical in shape and will flower (and fruit) best when grown in full sun. - Garden care: When planting incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost and some mycorrhizal fungi in the planting hole and stake firmly. Remove dead, diseased and crossing branches while the tree is dormant.
