Miscanthus sinensis 'Strictus'

Chinese silver grass

RHS award of garden merit
12lt (1-1.2m) £49.99
Silky, maroon or purplish brown-tinted, pale-grey flower-heads in autumn above clumps of narrow, blue-green arching leaves. This imposing ornamental grass makes an ideal specimen plant for a sunny, moist but well-drained border. A great companion for tall perennials such as veronicastrum, the plume-like flower-heads look fabulous frosted in the winter garden.
  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: fertile, moist, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: initially slow to establish
  • Flowering period: August and September
  • Flower colour: rich-brown
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

  • Garden care: Cut back the withered stems to the ground in early spring. Divide in late spring by removing small sections from the root-ball of the mature plant, without digging the complete plant up (It resents disturbance to the roots)
  • Goes well with: Phlomis russeliana, Veronicastrum virginicum f. album, Aster novae-angliae 'Barr's Pink', Eupatorium purpureum 'Atropurpureum', Allium sphaerocepthalon, Eryngium variifolium
    • CAUTION toxic if eaten/skin & eye irritant
