The plants in this collection will die right back in autumn, then fresh new growth will appear again in spring.

Areas that remain waterlogged for any length of time can be troublesome as the excess water will usually kill plants off. These however will thrive in soils that are reliably moist (but not excessively boggy), and put on a great display while they are doing it!

In this collection you will receive one of each of the following plants. They are all supplied as described.

  • Bistorta amplexicaulis 'Firetail': Long, slender spikes clustered with tiny, fluffy, crimson-red flowers rise from mid summer to early autumn above semi-evergreen, lance-shaped, mid-green leaves. This clump-forming, vigorous perennial has handsome foliage and quickly makes dense groundcover in sun or partial shade. Plant it in bold swathes to add vertical interest in the border right through to mid autumn and give it plenty of space. Persicaria does not like dry soil, so performs best in a bog garden or beside a pond. Bees and other insects love it too! Supplied in an cm nursery pot. Grows to 1.2m.

  • Lythrum salicaria 'Blush': This moisture loving perennial will quickly form naturalised clumps beside waterways, where its light pink flowers, which appear in profusion, will provide colour throughout the summer and into autumn. The birds and bees will be attracted by the nectar-rich flowers and the foliage takes on good autumn colour too. Supplied in an 8cm nursery pot. Grows to 1m.

  • Liatris spicata 'Kobold': Long-lasting spikes of deep magenta flowers appear from August to September above strap-shaped, fresh green leaves. The attractive, bottlebrush flowers open from the top downwards. This exotic-looking perennial will bring a vertical accent and late summer colour to the middle of a sunny border. It makes an excellent cut flower and bees and butterflies love it, too. Supplied in a 2 litre nursery pot. Grows to 50cm.

  • Planting tips: Prepare the bed well by digging in lots of composted organic matter before you plant. For best results it is essential that the plants are kept well watered for the first year, particularly during warmer weather.
