    • Position: full sun
    • Soil: moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil
    • Rate of growth: average
    • Flowering period:
    • Hardiness: frost hardy (may need winter protection)

These new cultivars have been selected for their compact branching habit and abundance of flowers which appear over a long period. They are ideal for pots, but their brightly coloured flowers will also put on a dazzling display when used to fill gaps at the front of the border. Happiest in a sunny spot with freely draining soil.

In the collection you will receive one of each of the following varieties. Supplied in 9cm pots.

      Salvia 'Mirage Deep Purple'
Forming part of a new range of salvia hybrids, it produces masses of rich purple flowers all summer long, on compact, well-branched plants. Mix with rich pinks or oranges for an eye catching display, or for a more soothing combination, team it with silver foliage and pastel pinks. It's great in pots - or near the front of a sunny border. Grows to 40cm tall.

      Salvia 'Mirage Cherry Red'
Compact free branching plants covered in masses of bright red flowers during the summer through to autumn. Great in pots or towards the front of sunny borders. Grows to 40cm tall.

      Salvia 'Mirage Hot Pink'
These showy little plants make great gap-fillers for the front of a sunny border, and can also be used to liven up the display on the patio. Flowering over a long period (and in profusion), they look stunning when teamed up with strong blues and purples, but can also be tempered with a backdrop of silver foliage. Grows to 40cm tall.

    • Garden care: To prolong flowering remove the flower spikes as soon they start to fade. Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant in spring. Protect from excessive cold and waterlogged soils.
