Sarracenia 'Maroon'

pitcher plant

9cm pot £14.99
  • Position: bright filtered or direct sunlight
  • Soil: a specialist carnivorous compost
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Hardiness: half hardy (may need winter protection)

This is a carnivorous plant, that produces pitchers that secrete nectar to attract insects. Unfortunately this is bad news for the insects though, as the plant then goes on to digest their remains - it's their clever way of topping up their nutrients. These are curious and exotic-looking plants that can be grown outside in milder regions.Plant in moist soil around ponds but do not place in water of waterlogged soils
  • Garden care : In colder areas it can be advised to lift these and overwinter them in a coservatory or glass house, they are naturally not vigerous rooting so can be plunged into the soil in there pots and bought inwhen tempretures drop
Goes well with...
