Loved by designers and florists alike, and it is easy to see why! Grown as a biennial the fluffy lime-green pom pom heads stand proud on the long, bright green stems, adding texture and shape over a long period to a sunny planting scheme. Stylish and simple these 'flowers' look fabulous in a cottage garden or a formal contemporary setting. Plant in groups with bright orange and purple flowers for an eyecatching display, or with shades of blues for a cooler theme. Furthermore they are long lasting as cut flowers in the home.
Prefers soil enriched with well-rotted manure or garden compost and an application of a balanced fertiliser in spring. Dianthus should be trimmed back lightly after flowering to promote new growth at the base of the plant. Prune more closely in spring, as new shoots emerge to maintain a tidy shape.
