Primula Gold-laced Group
Polyanthus Gold Lace
This perennial dies back to below ground level each year in autumn, then fresh new growth appears again in spring.
- Position: partial shade
- Soil: rich, moist but well drained
- Rate of growth: average
- Flowering period: late winter to spring
- Hardiness: fully hardy
Popularised by the Victorians who displayed them with much pride in 'auricula theatres', this modern variety has all the old world charm, but slightly larger flowers in shades of dark red, scarlet and near-black, edged with gold and silver 'lace'. 'Gold-laced Group' can be used to edge a springtime border where it will complement early risers such as Pulmonaria, hellebore, and winter aconite. - Garden care: Divide large clumps after the plant has flowered, preferably during a wet spell.
