This perennial is semi-evergreen so it can lose some of its leaves in winter. In colder regions or more exposed gardens, it may lose them all, but then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

  • Position: partial shade
  • Soil: neutral to alkaline, freely draining soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: January to February
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

A hardy, deer-resistant, evergreen perennial that showcases its beauty in the garden all year round. This stunning plant boasts large, cup-shaped pink flowers centred with green, that bloom in late winter and early spring against a backdrop of dark green, glossy leaves, mottled with silver. ‘Pink Beauty’ has a vigorous growth habit, low maintenance requirements and ability to thrive in shade, making it ideal for woodland gardens. The flowers fade to a dusky pink but persist, offering interest for many months.

  • Garden care: Add lots of well-rotted leaf mould or organic matter to the planting hole. Cut the old leaves back down to the ground in January or February as this will show off the new emerging flowers to best effect. Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted organic matter around the base of the plant in autumn and provide a top-dressing of general fertiliser each spring.
  • Humans/Pets: Harmful if eaten; skin irritant
