- 25 x Iris 'Harmony' (Reticulata) (for flowers in January): Royal blue flowers that have a central yellow mark on each fall, push up through the soil in late winter, often through a carpet of snow. These low-growing, early-blooming bulbs are perfect for adding a touch of colour in gravel gardens or alpine beds. They also look very sweet in containers, where they can be admired close up on a sunny patio. Grows to 12cm.
- 10 × Narcissus 'Tête-à-tête' (for flowers in late February): Clusters of up to 3 deep golden-yellow flowers with slightly reflexed petals and deep yellow cups appear in March and April above the narrow, strap-shaped leaves. One of the most popular forms, this delightful dwarf narcissus makes a fabulous early spring display for a sunny window box. Grows to 25cm.
- 25 x Anemone blanda blue-flowered (for flowers in March): This is a wonderful plant that produces cheerful, daisy-like flowers in shades of blue and purple. These are perfect plants for naturalising in a mixed border around the base of deciduous shrubs, or adding spring colour to the edge of a woodland garden. Grows to 15cm.
- 50 × Muscari armeniacum (for flowers in April): Charming, cone-shaped spikes of tiny, mid-blue flowers appear in April and May above the grass-like mid-green leaves. Grape hyacinths look gorgeous peeping out of a large container planted with yellow spring-flowering pansies and tulips. Quickly forming small colonies, they're also valuable for naturalising at the front of a sunny mixed or shrub border. Grows to 15cm.
- 10 x Tulipa saxatilis (Bakeri Group) 'Lilac Wonder' (for flowers in May): Lilac-pink, bell-shaped flowers with a bright yellow blotch at their centre top slender, upright stems in mid-spring. A diminutive star for the front of the border, it flowers prolifically and is easy to grow. This tulip is one of the few that do not need to be lifted each year, as it will spread to form good-sized clumps. Grows to 25cm.
- 25 × Allium unifolium (for flowers in June): The flowers on this allium are quite papery, which means they last longer than many of the other varieties. In spring the first sign of growth is the appearance of the strappy foliage. This has usually died off by the time the flowers appear in late spring. The pinky-purple, bell-shaped flowers emerge in clusters of up to 20 at a time on top of single stems. A great plant for an alpine bed or to add colour to the front of a mixed border. Grows to 30cm.
- Garden care: Plant in naturalistic groups in autumn. During summer when the bulbs are dormant lift and divide groups that are becoming congested.
