This herb dies back to below ground level each year in autumn, then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: humus-rich, moisture retentive soil
  • Rate of growth: fast
  • Flowering Period: July to August
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

A milder and sweeter form of spearmint, ‘Cubanito’ is the mint for mojitos as well as blending in with jellies, cordials and the occasional Pimms! Citrusy in flavour, this large-leaved mint will happily grow in containers and is said to be less invasive in the border due to a lack of invasive runners.

  • Garden care: When plants have finished flowering in summer, cut flowered shoots back to 5cm (2in) above the surface of the compost. Contain it by planting in a large pot and ideally, lift, clean and divide root runners every autumn. Do keep well watered though.
