Aromatic, pale yellow and red-edged, greyish-green, heart-shaped leaves and tiny, yellowish-green flowers surrounded by white, petal-like bracts. This spreading perennial makes attractive groundcover for moist areas of the garden in sun or partial shade. Although less vigorous than the species in shallow water it needs to be contained to prevent it from becoming invasive.
- Garden care: In shallow water the spread may be limited by using an aquatic planting basket lined with hessian. Before planting apply a 2.5cm (1in) top-dressing of pea shingle or gravel to prevent the top layer of the planting medium from clouding the water
