Pre-planted 'drop in' bulbs for a designer window box
Ready to plant, Balcon-o-mat
This bulb dies back after flowering each year and enters a period of rest ahead of regrowth the following season.
- Position: full sun or partial shade
- Soil: well-drained soil
- Rate of growth: average
- Flowering period: March to April
- Hardiness: fully hardy
This pre-planted biodegradable tray of 'drop in' bulbs has been designed to fit a window box measuring 55cm long x 12.5cm wide. It makes a quick and easy option, which takes all the hassle out of choosing and planting bulbs! - Please note: The window box in the photo is not included.
Each tray has been planted with:
3 × Narcissus 'Sailboat': Each stem can carry up to three sweetly scented flowers, so these jonquils not only look good, but smell great too. They have creamy-white, windswept petals and a cup which fades from butter to cream as it matures.
3 × Tulipa 'Purple Prince': Glorious purple flowers, with a lilac flush on the outer edges of the petals, open as they mature to reveal a dark interior with a golden yellow eye. Held on stout stems above the grey-green foliage, they will hold up well in poor weather conditions.
3 × Tulipa 'Concerto': Elegant ivory-white blooms with a yolk of golden yellow mark ‘Concerto’ as a stand-out, early-flowering dwarf tulip with the potential to re-flower later in the season if they are left undisturbed during dormancy. Short stems make them a durable option for borders and pots, and an ideal choice for the cut flower vase.
15 × Scilla 'Pink Giant': Sprays of tiny, star-shaped pink flowers in February and March and slender, strap-shaped, mid-green leaves. Versatile and easy to grow bulbs, ideal for a sunny spot.
15 × Muscari armeniacum: Charming, cone-shaped spikes of tiny, mid-blue flowers appear in April and May above the grass-like, mid-green leaves. Grape hyacinths look gorgeous peeping out of a large container.
- Garden care: After flowering deadhead and apply a balanced liquid fertiliser each week for the first month. Once the foliage has died down naturally lift the bulbs and store in a cool greenhouse, or plant them out and let them naturalise.
- Humans/Pets: Ornamental bulbs - not to be eaten
