Allium 'Silver Spring'
ornamental onion or allium bulb
- Position: full sun
- Soil: fertile, well-drained soil
- Rate of growth: average to fast
- Flowering period: May to June
- Hardiness: fully hardy
- Bulb size: 10+
We fell in love with this allium as soon as we saw it. In early to midsummer each upright stem is crowned with a rounded cluster of small flowers, each with a ruff of rounded white petals that surround a prominent blueberry-purple centre. They are great for adding structural interest to the border, and their flowers are ideal for cutting. - Garden care: Plant bulbs 15cm deep and 15cm apart to enjoy the full effect of the flowers. Avoid excessive moisture from late summer when they become dormant. Over-large clumps can be lifted and divided in autumn or spring.
- Pets: TOXIC if eaten; Humans: Ornamental bulbs - not to be eaten
