Tennis ball-sized heads of rich purple star-shaped flowers, top the sturdy (but relatively short) stems of this impressive allium. A recipient of an RHS Award of Garden Merit, it's a great garden performer, and after recent trials held at Wisley, the panel of judges declared that it was 'one of the best.' A strong grower, it is great for pots or borders, and the seedheads remain attractive long after the flowers have faded. - Garden care: Plant bulbs 15cm deep and 15cm apart to enjoy the full effect of the flowers. Avoid excessive soil moisture, and split and divide large clumps in autumn or spring.
- Pets: TOXIC if eaten; Humans: Ornamental bulbs - not to be eaten
