Parsley is a very versatile herb. It can be used to freshen the breath, add flavour to foods - or simply act as a garnish. The tightly crimped leaves have a rich flavour, but it is also one of the most decorative herbs in the garden. It's very reliable and a perfect choice for pots and troughs, which should be placed by the back door for easy picking.

  • Garden care:
If you wish to continue harvesting the leaves through colder months, it should either be over-wintered in a cool greenhouse or protected using a cloche in frost-prone areas.

  • Sowing instructions:
Sow into pots or seed trays in early spring. Seeds are slow to germinate so be patient. Once the weather warms up harden off and transplant outside in a lightly-shaded spot, allowing 25cm between plants. Later in the season sow direct into shallow drills and thin seedlings to final spacings. Pick leaves once they reach about 8cm tall. To speed up germination, water newly-sown seeds with just-boiled water.
