This perennial is semi-evergreen so it can lose some of its leaves in winter. In colder regions or more exposed gardens, it may lose them all, but then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

  • Position: partial shade
  • Soil: moist, humus-rich, neutral to acid soil
  • Rate of growth: average to fast
  • Flowering period: June to July
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

Mid-green leaves and tiers of crimson budded flowers opening to orange and fading to golden yellow. This semi-evergreen candelabra primula is excellent for a shady, woodland garden. Planted in groups for maximum effect, the upright stems contrast well with the foliage of ferns and other shade-loving plants. Primula bulleyana naturalises well and is a lovely addition to wildlife gardens and ponds.

  • Garden care: Plant with a scoop of well-rotted compost to the planting hole. Divide large clumps after the plant has flowered, keeping the plant's roots moist during transplanting. Tolerates more sun if the soil is reliably moist.
