This perennial dies back to below ground level each year in autumn, then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: moist, humus-rich soil
  • Rate of growth: average to fast-growing
  • Flowering period: June to August
  • Hardiness: frost hardy (may need winter protection)

The flowers of this new foxglove are sterile, so they put on a prolonged display - and this combined with the plant's naturally branching habit, which results in lots of flower spikes, makes these one of the showier varieties. It's a great performer for mixed or herbaceous borders, where it will offer colour and structure, as well as attract bees and other beneficial insects.

  • Garden care: Ensure that the soil is kept moist in summer. After flowering cut back the flowered spikes to encourage more sideshoots. In milder areas apply a generous 5-7cm mulch in autumn to protect the roots from the cold. Alternatively, grow it in a pot and over-winter it in a cool greenhouse.
  • Humans/Pets: TOXIC if eaten
