An indigenous species of Mexico, Pachyphytum bracteosum is an evergreen perennial succulent known for its resemblance to chalky stones. This easily manageable potted plant features clusters of small, rounded leaves with a silvery-grey hue. Under strong sunlight, these leaves may take on a subtle pink blush. During the late spring and early summer, tall stems emerge, adorned with vibrant red flowers that are partially concealed by lengthy, silvery bracts.

  • Garden care:
Place it in a bright spot and in spring and summer, water when the compost gets dry, but make sure it never sits in excess water for any length of time. In autumn and winter cut back on the watering but do not let it dry out completely. Repot every year or two into a slightly larger pot using specialist cacti or succulent compost. It will drop its leaves if it is either over-watered or under-watered.
