This perennial is semi-evergreen so it can lose some of its leaves in winter. In colder regions or more exposed gardens, it may lose them all, but then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

'Obsidian Deep Blue Shades' makes a dramatic statement with dark and brooding foliage that form a striking backdrop for the uniform blooms in deep mauve-blue hues, each speckled with a golden eye. Planted in clusters, this robust, perennial primrose creates a sweeping blanket of rich colour in spring borders but also combines to glamorous effect in containers.
Plant out in a partially shaded and sheltered position, adding plenty of leaf mould and compost to the planting hole and backfill. Water well until established. Divide large clumps in late spring or early summer after the plant has flowered, preferably during a wet spell.
