This perennial dies back to below ground level each year in autumn, then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

• Garden care: Pot up and grow on under glass until all risk of frost has passed when they can be planted outside in a well-prepared bed. Pinching out the growing tips will encourage them to become bushier, and feed with a high potash fertiliser at regular intervals throughout the summer. Feed weekly with seaweed extract during the growing season. Deadhead faded flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced.
