Fantastically fragrant, tubular, red-purple flushed white flowers appear from April to August, fading to yellow. In hot summers the flowers are followed by purple-black berries. This long-flowering Japanese honeysuckle is vigorous and easy to grow. The pretty, purple-tinted foliage provides all-round cover for a pergola, arch or boundary wall.

  • Garden care: Cut back established plants after flowering, removing a third of the flowering shoots. Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted compost or manure around the base of the plant in early spring.
