Clematis Twinkle ('Zotwi') (PBR)
clematis integrifolia (group 3)
This climber is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.
- Position: Full sun or partial shade
- Soil: Moderately fertile, moist but well drained soil
- Rate of growth: Fast
- Flowering period: June to August
- Hardiness: Fully hardy
'Twinkle' presents dainty bell-shaped white flowers accented by a soft sky-blue crown that transform to pure and elegant white in full sun. This prolific, clump-forming, herbaceous clematis thrives in borders, supports, or containers, attracting bees and insects. Hardy and trouble-free, it's perfect for front-of-border planting, pairs beautifully with roses, and offers delightful cut flowers.
Clematis are happiest when their roots are kept cool and moist, so try to plant them where the base of the plants will be lightly shaded by other, lower-growing species. In early spring cut back the previous year's growth (leaving it to overwinter) and apply a slow-release balanced fertiliser and a mulch of well-rotted garden compost around the plant, avoiding the immediate crown.
- Humans: Skin irritant; Pets: Harmful if eaten
