This perennial dies back to below ground level each year in autumn, then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: fertile, moist well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: fast-growing
  • Flowering period: June to September
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

Pompoms of pink flowers popular with pollinating insects on sturdy stems above twisted, grass-like silvery-green foliage. Perfect for the border, alpine rock garden and containers, Allium senescens subsp. glaucum is also deer and rabbit resistant. One to companion plant with the equally long-flowering and taller Allium ‘Millennium’.

  • Garden care: Alliums are drought tolerant and watering plants grown in the ground is not usually necessary. Plants dislike summer irrigation because this may cause the bulbs to rot, however plants in containers may need supplementary water. Deadhead spent flower heads at the base and divide congested clumps after flowers and foliage has died down. Avoid excessive moisture from late summer when dormant.
  • Pets: TOXIC if eaten
