Argyrocytisus battendieri

pineapple broom ( syn. Cytisus battandieri )

Product Image
Cone-shaped clusters of pineapple-scented, lemon yellow flowers appear in mid- and late summer against the backdrop of silver-grey foliage. A vigorous shrub, it's perfect for training against a wall in a sunny spot with freely draining soil. For maximum enjoyment, try to plant it near an entrance or well-trodden path so you can fully appreciate the fabulously fruity scent. The pineapple broom has nectar/pollen rich flowers and is known for attracting bees.

How to care for Argyrocytisus battendieri:

Will grow in any well-drained soil in full sun and thrives in poor acid soil (but is lime tolerant). Wear gloves and wash hands after handling. When planting, add some well-rotted organic matter into the planting hole and a sprinkling of mycorrhizal fungi to aid root establishment. This broom requires minimal pruning, but can be cut back to side shoots or strong buds immediately after flowering. Protect from cold, drying winds.
