Buddleja globosa

orange ball tree

Product Image
A large, highly distinctive semi-evergreen shrub with long, narrow, dark green leathery-looking leaves with white undersides. Clusters of fragrant, spherical dark orange and yellow flowers appear in early-summer. Buddleja globosa thrives with the protection of a sunny wall and is best suited positioned towards the back of the border, with silver-leaved perennials such as Nepeta x faasenii and Stachys byzantina gently spilling at its base.

How to care for Buddleja globosa:

Plant out as soon conditions allow, avoiding frozen or waterlogged soil. Incorporate well-rotted manure or garden compost and perhaps some mycorrhizal fungi into the soil when planting.

Keep well-watered during warm weather until the plant has settled in fully, and once the plant has become established, in late winter, remove dead and weak shoots, reduce poorly formed stems by about a third and reduce the overall height to promote even flowering throughout the shrub.
