Fallopia baldschuanica
Russian vine or mile a minute plant ( syn. Polygonum baldschuanicum )

In August and September this woody deciduous climber is literally smothered with panicles of tiny, funnel-shaped, pink-tinged white flowers. Ideal for covering an unsightly structure or wall in sun or partial shade, but plant with caution since it's extremely fast-growing and can end up choking everything in its path!
How to care for Fallopia baldschuanica:
To avoid dry conditions, and to ensure good soil contact around the rootball, we advise planting climbers at least 30cm (12in), and preferably 45-60cm (18-24in) away from the base of a wall or fence. An even larger distance should be maintained when planting climbers beside an existing tree or shrub.
Plant it in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun or light shade, making sure it has a strong support such as a pergola, wall, or trellis, as its fast growth can overwhelm weaker structures. Water well after planting and during dry periods, and apply a mulch in spring to help retain moisture.
Unless you are planting to screen or hide an eyesore, regular pruning is essential – cut it back hard in late winter or early spring to keep it in bounds, as it responds well and quickly regrows. Through summer, lighter trims will help control its speed of growth and encourage flowering, preventing it from smothering neighbouring plants.
