The big, papery, white flowers, which appear from late spring, are flushed with yellow at their centre and look great against the grey-green foliage of this tough little evergreen shrub.
Once established it becomes drought tolerant and it thrives in hot, sunny spots where little else will grow. It also copes well with salt laden wind so is a good choice for coastal gardens. In more favourable conditions, it is a very pretty, low-growing shrub, that works well as edging or filling a beautiful pot on the terrace.
