hellebore double Ellen collection

hellebore collection

Product Image
This exquisite hellebore collection offers a stunning trio of winter-flowering perennials, perfect for brightening up partially shaded borders. Each cultivar produces beautiful double blooms in unique colour combinations of white petals speckled with deep maroon, creamy petals edged with plum-pink, and soft pink flowers with a greenish-yellow centre.

How to care for Helleborus × hybridus Double Ellen collection (3 varieties):

Add lots of well-rotted leaf mould or organic matter to the planting hole. Cut the old leaves back down to the ground in January or February as this will show off the new emerging flowers to best effect. It will also help to get rid of foliar diseases (such as Hellebore leaf spot) if present.

Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted organic matter around the base of the plant in autumn and provide a top-dressing of general fertiliser each spring. Cut off the seed heads to prevent inferior seedlings colonising.

What's included:

In each collection you will receive the following in 9cm pots.

  • Helleborus × hybridus 'Double Ellen White': White, somewhat pointed-tipped petals, which are lightly freckled with deep maroon, surround a boss of creamy white stamens, forming large blooms that are carried on stout, upright stems. Ideal for adding light to a partially shaded border. Grows to 35cm.

  • Helleborus × hybridus 'Double Ellen Picotee': Each creamy white petal is variably spotted, and edged with a deep plum-pink, thus creating delightful bi-coloured flowers, which appear in loose cymes. If left undisturbed in the border, the evergreen foliage will form dense, slowly expanding clumps. Grows to 35cm.

Helleborus × hybridus 'Double Ellen Pink': Clear pink petals surround a greenish-yellow centre, forming very pretty flowers, which appear in loose cymes from late winter. If left undisturbed in the border, the evergreen foliage will form dense, slowly expanding clumps that will carpet the ground. An excellent choice for partial shade. Grows to 35cm.
