Itea ilicifolia

Virginian willow

Product Image
A spreading, evergreen shrub with spiny, glossy dark green, holly-like leaves, that can be used as either a free-standing shrub, or trained flat against a sunny, sheltered wall. In mid summer to early autumn, Itea ilicifolia is covered with long, drooping, catkin-like racemes of vanilla-fragranced, greenish-white flowers.

How to care for Itea ilicifolia:

Grow Itea ilicifolia in well-drained soil in a sheltered position in full sun. This evergreen shrub works especially well in wall-side borders where the shelter and reflected warmth help it thrive. It can also be planted in mixed shrub borders, against fences, or in a sheltered spot near patios or paths where its fragrant flowers and glossy foliage can be appreciated up close.

Water regularly during the first season to help establishment and mulch to retain moisture. Remove any dead or damaged stems after flowering.
